Albert Hirschmann is a character in the period drama series Transatlantic. He is portrayed by Lucas Englander.

Biography[]

Albert is a Jewish-German who has been running from the Nazis for many years.

In 1933, he and his older sister Ursula left Berlin for Paris. They then moved to Trieste, London, Seville and then back to Paris again. His father died just before Hitler came to power. His mother and younger sister Eva went to London.[2]

By the time he reaches Marseille, France in 1940, he has been a freedom fighter all over Europe. He served in both the French and Spanish army. He studied economics in Italy, until he was kicked out by the Nazis. After discovering a route to cross the border to Spain by foot, Albert joins the Emergency Rescue Committee, which helps refugees escape Nazi persecution in Europe.

Underneath his adventurous bravado, Albert begins to think he will never be safe after spending a lifetime of running from violence.

Albert nurtures an adventurous spirit and loves flirting with women, though he fears commitment.
