Zoa Rey Gómez-Fajardo is the main protagonist in Welcome To Eden. She is Judith's best friend and goes to the Eden Foundation party. She is portrayed by Amaia Aberasturi.
Biography[]
Zoa is a 19-year-old second-year biology student living in Barcelona with her younger sister, Gabi. She had a tough childhood. Her parents separated when she was 12. Her mother Roberta was a heroin addict who was constantly in and out of rehab. She was constantly lending money to her mother. Her father was often away. She took care of herself and her younger sister Gabi alone.
Zoa often ran away from home. The first time she ran away from home was at the age of 10, when her parents were having problems. She stayed at Judith's for a month.[1]
Throughout Welcome To Eden[]
Zoa received a random text from Astrid asking "Are you happy?" Astrid then invited Zoa to an exclusive party on a secret island run by Eden Foundation to help them promote their new energy drink, Blue Eden. Zoa brought along her best friend Judith to the party, despite signing a contract agreeing to "no friends."
At the party, Zoa drank Blue Eden and became hazy. She almost fell off a cliff but was saved by a man named Nico.
The next morning, Zoa and the other four chosen people Aldo, Ibón, África and Charly woke up on an empty beach. A drone came to guide them and the five followed the drone. They reached an area with all the party staff and Astrid waiting for them.[2]
After the tour of Eden, Zoa was directed to Module 8, where she would be staying in. There, she met her new roommates, Claudia and Nico, the man who had saved her the night before. Zoa noticed that her bed frame was carved with the initials "C + F" for Claudia and Fran.
The next morning, Zoa and the other new members got their blood drawn and put on uniforms.
Zoa, Aldo and Charly were at the beach chatting. Charly quite liked the uniforms, but Aldo felt that the island was a cult, as they had taken away their phones, prevented them from leaving, and he was followed by a drone the night before. However, Charly was not in any rush to leave the island. Aldo was concerned that he would not be able to contact his clients. While they were chatting, some members walked by with equipment, and Orson asked them to take their samples to Saúl.
Zoa followed Orson to the horse stables and found Orson and Eloy kissing. She asked Orson about the whereabouts of her friend Judith, since she and Orson hooked up at the party, but Orson denied hooking up with her.
While sitting on the rocks by the shore, she was approached by Nico, who sat down next to her. She asked him about Orson and told him that she wanted to go home to her sister, Gabi.
Eva chose Zoa to do the evaluation. She was nervous, but Nico assured her that it would be a unique experience. Zoa talked about wanting to go home, and explained that she was worried about her friend Judith. Astrid told Zoa that they forgive her bringing her friend to Eden, and asked her to introduce herself. Zoa said that she was 19 and in her second year of biology. She said she lived with her little sister Gabi, who was turning 16 on that day. Since her father travelled a lot, they take care of themselves. Her parents separated when she was 12 and Gabi was 9 due to her mother's heroin addiction. She felt bad for her sister, because she would get excited when her mother left the rehab clinic, only for her mother to relapse again. Astrid had Zoa repeat, "My mother doesn't love me. My mother hates me." loudly, and then hugged her. Then, she watched as the other members hugged each other.
At night, while she was lying in bed, she sat up and noticed a little boy watching her from outside. She was startled and went outside the module to find him, but he was gone.[3]
Nico brought Zoa to a secluded part of the island. The two went diving and bonded over the experience. Nico told Zoa that her sister Gabi would be fine without her.
At the farewell party, Bel introduced herself to Zoa and wanted to speak with her privately, but they were interrupted by Nico, who brought two bottles of Blue Eden. Bel tried to tell Zoa not to be pressured into drinking it, but Nico encouraged Zoa to, so she took a few sips. Zoa then spent the whole night with Nico. The next morning, the two made out and Nico told Zoa not to leave him.[4]
Zoa woke up Charly to go look for Aldo together. Charly mentioned having a dream where Aldo looked for him. Zoa asked Nico what happens if anyone wants to leave Eden, and Nico was unsure, revealing that no one has ever left Eden before.
During the evaluation, Zoa watched as Astrid pressured Charly into telling everyone about his younger sister's death. She became angry and called Astrid out for pressuring Charly and refusing to let them leave the island. Nico pulled Zoa away.
That night, Nico told her to take off her wristband and secretly brought her to an underground cave. There, Zoa saw a boat with Judith's body inside. Her arm was blue, she had a hole in her forehead and her arm was painted blue. Zoa screamed in terror.[5]
Zoa found a screwdriver underneath her bed and carved "Judith Forever" next to the "C + F carving."
During a commotion caused by a storm, Zoa brought Ibón to the underground cave, but Judith's body had already been removed. She was confused and explained to Ibón what she had seen the night before. Ibón realised that Zoa was describing the Patinir painting he had seen on Astrid's wall. He believed that someone wanted Zoa to find Judith's body, so they purposely lay her body in such a way.
Zoa later told Nico that she went to the cave with Ibón and Nico advised her not to trust Ibón since he was planning to stay at Eden.
Bel got permission from Astrid to watch over Zoa because she was concerned about her "rebellious behaviour." While alone, Bel told Zoa not to trust Nico because he is her "link" - a person that is supposed to keep a newcomer at Eden. Zoa confronted Nico, asking if he was her link, but he denied it. Nico suddenly panicked and demanded to know where they had heard the term "link" from. He rushed to tell Astrid and Ulises that Zoa had found out about the term. During their conversation, it is revealed that Astrid was the one who asked Nico to show Judith's body to Zoa to scare her, but the plan did not work as Zoa was not scared and instead asked more questions. Astrid asked Ulises to bring Zoa to her. Seeing this, Nico became concerned about what they might do to Zoa.
At Astrid's place, Zoa was told off for not taking chances offered to her. When Zoa asked about Judith's death, they blamed her for breaching the initial contract. Astrid ordered to have Brenda kill Zoa using the same device that she had killed Aldo. As the device was pointed at her head, Zoa changed her mind and promised to dedicate life to Eden. She asked for another chance and lied that she heard the term "link" from Aldo. Astrid decided to give her another chance, and Zoa left. Outside, Nico hugged Zoa and said he was worried about her.
Later, Zoa tried to kill Nico with the screwdriver, but was stopped by Claudia and witnessed by Alma.[6]
Claudia told Zoa that Fran wanted to help people, but ended up getting killed himself. She warned Zoa to stay away from Bel because she was planning a rebellion, and recommended that Zoa, like Claudia herself, should find other ways to escape at the next festival.
During Ulises and Ibón's fight, Zoa dragged Ibón and told him about "links" - people that are supposed to keep a newcomer at Eden. She told him about the idea of running away at the next festival using a boat in an underwater cave.
After Astrid received a death threat at her and Erick's anniversary party, Zoa was suggested as a scapegoat at the committee meeting, but the majority of members voted against it. They ended up choosing Claudia to be the scapegoat.
The next morning, Zoa watched as Claudia was taken away by Brenda and Orson to the cliff to be executed. During this, Bel consoled Zoa.[7]
One night, the four new members, Zoa, África, Charly and Ibón, went through an initiation process to signify them joining Eden. They needed to walk across burning coal and get a necklace. The four then got a star tattooed onto their wrists to show that they were in level 1.
Charly explored the underwater cave and found an opening to the sea. He told the good news to Zoa about this, who shared it with Ibón. However, Ibón surprisingly wanted to stay at Eden, because otherwise, his controlling father would be able to track him down.
In the afternoon, Zoa and Bel went horse riding together. They sat down on some rocks and talked. Bel revealed to Zoa that Erick's family is loaded, and that Erick and Astrid treat Eden members like children because they do not have any. Zoa brought up seeing a young boy outside her window one night, but Bel brushed it off, saying that it because she was hallucinating after drinking Blue Eden. Bel explained that children are not allowed at Eden, and that members are not allowed to get pregnant. Members who don't meet Astrid and Erick's expectations get replaced, and there will always be new members. Bel said that this is why they needed to take a stand and plan a rebellion. Many shared their opinion and they needed to team up. Zoa brought up Fran and Claudia. Bel said that she begged Fran to wait longer after the festival because they weren't prepared, but he couldn't wait. Bel began to tear up, Zoa assured Bel that she didn't kill him - Astrid did.
At night, Eloy dragged Ibón to his module glass window and saw Zoa and Bel standing in front of theirs. Bel and Eloy exchanged a hand signal to show that they had each other's backs. Bel explained to Zoa that it was good to have a reminder that there was someone she could trust. Zoa and Bel started kissing, but Bel stopped it and asked Zoa about where she stood. Zoa made it clear that she planned on escaping, but Bel said she didn't intend to do that because she wanted to save the rest of the people at Eden.[1]
