Gerd Bühling is a character in the German psychological thriller miniseries Dear Child, who is portrayed by Hans Löw.
Biography[]
Gerd is a CID officer who was in charge of the Lena Beck missing persons case 13 years ago. He is friends and neighbours with Lena Beck's parents, Matthias and Karin. As it portrays throughout the show, he has depression and insomnia with a history of suicidal attempt. He also has a problem with drugs, taking more antidepressants than prescribed

In the middle of the night, Gerd learned that a woman resembling Lena was in a hit-and-run incident. He called Matthias and Karin Beck and arranged to meet them at the University Hospital Aachen.
At the hospital, Matthias and Karin did not believe the woman to be Lena. However, they immediately broke down upon seeing Lena's daughter, Hannah, as she looked exactly like a young Lena.
When Aachen police officer Aida Kurt learned of Gerd's relationship with Matthias and Karin Beck, she was angry, as Gerd's personal relationship with them could have hindered the Lena's missing person investigation.
Police later uncovered that the woman was actually Jasmin Grass, who was kidnapped by the same man who kidnapped Lena Beck. Jasmin was forced to assume the identity of Lena, and raise Lena's children, Hannah and Jonathan, as her own.
DNA testing revealed that Hannah and Jonathan were half-siblings. Hannah was fathered by Lena's ex-boyfriend Florian, while Jonathan was fathered by Lena's captor.
When Lena's father, Matthias, learned of the DNA testing, he was furious. Matthias and Karin had been arranging for Hannah and Jonathan to live with them, since they were the children's closest known relatives. The revelation of Hannah's biological father would prevent Matthias and Karin from being their legal guardian. However, Gerd was more concerned with solving the case and believed that Matthias and Karin were rushing to become Hannah and Jonathan's legal guardians too soon.
After Hannah went missing, Gerd followed Jasmin, who went into a van. Gerd followed the van to a beach, where he found Lars bleeding to death. He asked Lars for the whereabouts of Lena's body. Lars revealed that Lena was buried in the garden by the house.
