Hal Wyler is a character in the political drama thriller series The Diplomat. He is portrayed by Rufus Sewell.
Biography[]
Hal is an experienced US diplomat and former ambassador to Lebanon who has negotiated the end of wars, but has made many enemies along the way through his ruthless and manipulative ways.
Hal's career within the US administration is on pause after he was fired for accusing the Secretary of State of being a war criminal.[1]
Hal's wife, Kate Wyler, is also an experienced diplomat. She is forced by President William Rayburn to serve as the US ambassador to the UK, which is a far more formal and attention-grabbing position. She is uncomfortable, but reluctantly accepts it.
Hal and Kate move to London. Hal is not used to staying outside the spotlight and letting his wife shine.
