Jasmin Grass, also known as Lena Beck, is a character in the German psychological thriller miniseries Dear Child, who is portrayed by Kim Riedlek.
Biography[]
Jasmin is the daughter of Ulrich. She was kidnapped and lived in captivity for several months. She was forced to assume the identity of Lena Beck, who was kidnapped 13 years ago by the same man. After Lena gave birth to her third child, Lena and the baby both died from childbed fever, as their captor refused to get a doctor.
Jasmin was forced to dye her hair blonde and was branded with a circle-shaped scar on her palm, to resemble Lena. She was also forced to raise Lena's two children, Hannah and Jonathan, as if they were her own children.
While in captivity, Jasmin, Hannah and Jonathan were forced to abide by strict rules. Every time their captor entered their bedroom, they had to show both sides of their hands.
Throughout Dear Child[]
While escaping from captivity, Jasmin and Hannah were in a hit-and-run accident. They were taken to the University Hospital Aachen. Police believed Jasmin to be Lena Beck, as she looked similar. Upon Lena's parents arrival, they realised that Jasmin was not Lena. However, Lena's parents immediately broke down upon seeing Hannah, as she looked exactly like a young Lena.
After escaping from captivity, Jasmin continued to hear the voice of her captor in her head. At first, when questioned by police, Jasmin was adamant that she was Lena. However, after the police revealed that they found a dead man where she and the children had been living, Jasmin revealed her true identity, believing that she was safe, and her captor had died.
However, the man turned out to be someone else, and Jasmin's captor continued to torment her, by sending her messages via Jasmin's neighbour and watching her through a security camera.
Later, it is revealed that Lars let Jasmin live after attempting to escape, because Hannah insisted on letting Jasmin get medical help from a hospital. Hannah explained that Jasmin told stories just like their biological mother, Lena.
At a beach, Jasmin said that she needed to go to the toilet, to distract Lars. She pretended to faint. When Lars ran by Jasmin's side, she stabbed Lars with a glass shard several times, telling him once and for all that her name is Jasmin, not Lena. Jasmin left him to bleed out.
