Lee Seok-jae is a character in the Korean drama series The Glory. He is portrayed by Ryoo Sung-hyun.
Biography[]
Seok-jae is the husband of Kang Hyeon-nam and the father of Lee Seon-a. He gambles and frequently beats his wife and daughter.
Throughout The Glory[]
Seok-jae is first seen beating his wife in their home. His wife and daughter try confronting him with a knife, in an attempt to murder him. This was before Hyeon-nam had met Dong-eun. Another scene shows Seon-a bleeding around her head after being beaten by Seok-jae.
Seok-jae is shown brutally beating his wife and hitting her with a chair, as he was mad that Hyeon-nam had quit her job and sent Seon-a away from their home. Hours later, Seok-jae re-enters the home after a jog outside. While Seok-jae was drinking, Hyeon-nam tries to take the phone she hid in the laundry in order to check on Seon-a. Gaining suspicion, he pushes Hyeon-nam down the floor. Finding a secret stash of money stored in the laundry, he frustratingly asks Hyeon-nam where she got the money from, and finds out about her and Dong-eun’s plan.
He suddenly became less abusive after finding out about Hyeon-nam’s plan, as mentioned by Hyeon-nam while talking to the store clerk. He then began texting Hong Yeong-ae, saying that he knows her daughter killed somebody, and that she killed not one, but two people. Panicked, Yeong-ae makes a plan to kill him by luring him to the middle of the road.
On the day of his death, he tells Hyeon-nam that he’s leaving the house, and won’t come back for a few days. While he was on a side walk, Yeong-ae tells him to walk further onto the road. The car hits Seok-jae, killing him instantly.
Personality[]
From what we can see in the movie, he usually beats up his wife and daughter when he’s angry or annoyed, especially when he is sober. He feels little sympathy for his actions and is abusive. The rest of his personality is mostly unclear as he is a minor character and rarely appears in one of the episodes.
