The Louvre is an art museum in Paris. It is the largest and most-visited art museum in the world.
Background[]
The museum is housed in the Louvre palace, the beginnings of which were constructed around the 13th century. The building became an art museum on August 10th, 1793, as decreed by the Revolution-era National Assembly. The Louvre's extensive collection includes many of the most famous works in European art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.
In Lupin[]

Assane at the Louvre, in character as "Paul Sernine."
When Assane sees that the Pellegrinis' newly-recovered necklace is going to be auctioned off at the Louvre, he resolves to steal it in an effort to avenge the death of the father. Assane gains employment at the museum under the name "Luis Perenna," in order to study its security system. On the day of the auction itself, Assane passes himself off as a millionaire tech businessman named "Paul Sernine" in order to attend, while three loan sharks whose help he has enlisted disable the security system and pose as security guards.
The auction, which is being overseen by Juliette Pellegrini, commences, and Assane begins making higher and higher bids for the necklace, driving the price up dramatically. Eventually, he outbids all the other customers, and is presented with his prize. However, the loan sharks betray Assane, beating up both him and the auctioneer and stealing the necklace and fleeing. They fail to make a successful getaway, and wind up crashing through the glass Pyramide Inversée.

Youssef Guedira surveys the damage done to the Pyramide Inversée
Several police officers, including Romain Laugier and Youssef Guedira, are called in to deal with the situation. Laugier is suspicious of Assane, but ultimately allows him to leave. Unbeknownst to everybody, Assane had switched out the necklaces during the fight. Using flaws in the Louvre security system to his advantage, he smuggles the necklace out of his museum and returns to his apartment.
Trivia[]
- Characters in Red Notice go to the Louvre for a heist at the end of the movie.
- The Bishop of Red Notice mentions Assane Diop of Lupin (who also pulls off a heist at the Louvre) in Criminal Support Group, which is a promotional short that loosely connects Red Notice, Army of Thieves, Money Heist, Lupin, and Ozark, indicating that both the Lupin and Red Notice franchises have performed heists at the Louvre within the same continuity.
