Marta Ortega is a character in the Spanish crime drama limited series Muted. She is portrayed by Cristina Kovani.
Biography[]
Marta is a 22-year-old who works at Primark. She has a boyfriend named Eneko and recently rented an apartment to move in with him.
Marta is a fan of murderer Sergio Ciscar. She sent him letters and met him in prison more than once. They had a private visit 6 months before Sergio's release.
Marta and Sergio develop feelings for each other, but she finds it challenging due to Sergio's selective mutism. Marta and Sergio's relationship causes complications as Eneko is deeply in love with Marta and believes Sergio is dangerous.
Throughout Muted[]
After Sergio's release from prison, Marta met up with him. She handed him a handwritten note with Noa's phone number. Sergio and Noa lost contact after the murders. However, Sergio could not contact Noa using the number, as Marta had been out of contact for a while. Sergio felt deceived and confronted Marta about it. He revealed that he received many letters from fans, but only responded to Marta, because Marta knew Noa from teaching her piano.
Eneko left work early to meet Marta, but Marta had plans, disappointing Eneko.
After Ana Dussuel, the psychiatrist who was observing Sergio Ciscar talked to Marta, she went to Sergio's apartment. They watched Sergio and Noa's childhood videos. Just as Sergio was about to open up emotionally, Marta received a call from Eneko. She left, but to the disappointment of the psychiatrists, who were keen to find out Sergio's motive for murdering his parents.
Later, Eneko caught Marta and Sergio outside together.
When Eneko, learned of their relationship, he became very angry. He and a group of friends confronted Sergio outside his apartment building and beat him up. Meanwhile, Marta copied Sergio's childhood videos to the psychiatrists. The group of psychiatrists became increasingly concerned while watching Sergio getting beat up, but Ana insisted on getting all the videos before intervening. Later, Eneko and his friends reported to the police that Sergio assaulted them, sending Sergio to prison again.
Sergio's mentor, Natanael Torrija, rallied outside the prison for Sergio's release. An anonymous number sent Natanael a video of Sergio's assault, showing that Sergio was actually the victim of the assault, not the aggressor. Natanael met Eneko and pressured him into retracting his statement. Sergio was set free.
The psychiatrists watched Sergio's childhood videos, and saw that he was being abused by his parents. His mother, Blanca Polo, treated Sergio as a test subject, giving him medication and insulting him to test how he would react to a change in emotion.
Personality[]
Marta appears to be a rather flighty person, as her behaviour and temperament is quite erratic. Furthermore, she is naive and can be easily charmed by people such as Sergio, Eneko and Ana. She is an unpredictable individual, and often acts on pure emotion as opposed to logic. Marta can be obsessive and delusional, as shown by her relationship with Sergio.
