Mary Jayne Gold is a character in the period drama series Transatlantic. She is portrayed by Gillian Jacobs.

Biography[]

Mary Jayne is a wealthy heiress from Chicago who lived in Paris. In 1940, when the Nazis invaded France, she moved to Marseille, France, where she joined the Emergency Rescue Committee (ERC), a privately funded organization in New York determined to save refugees in Europe, mostly Jewish intellectuals and artists. Mary Jayne used her trust fund to bankroll the ERC. She paid for forged passports and subsidized the rescuing of many high-profile refugees. She understands peoples' assumptions about her and uses them to her advantage. Her time in Europe opens her up intellectually and socially. Working with the ERC gives her a sense of control and adventure that she didn't have back home.

Throughout Transatlantic[]

Mary Jayne Gold, Paul Kandjo and other members of the Emergency Rescue Committee orchestrate the freeing of several British prisoners of war from Camp des Milles by using Dagobert as a distraction.[1]
