Moon Dong-eun (Korean: 문동은) is the main protagonist of the Korean drama series, The Glory. She is portrayed by Song Hye-kyo and Jung Ji-so.
Biography[]
In high school, Dong-eun was severely bullied. She was burned, assaulted and mocked, but no one, not even her mother or teachers, protected her. Her bullies included Park Yeon-jin, Jeon Jae-jun, Lee Sa-ra, Choi Hye-jeong and Son Myeong-o. Yeon-jin's mother, Hong Yeong-ae, ensured her daughter never faced consequences for her crimes.
When Dong-eun dropped out of school due to bullying, Yeong-ae bribed Dong-eun's mother, Jeong Mi-hee, into changing the reason on the drop-out form from "bullying" to "maladjustment". When Dong-eun provided police with evidence of her daughter's involvement in Yoon So-hee's death, Yeong-ae paid the police officer to give her the evidence and not mention it in the reports.
Since dropping out to escape from the violence, Dong-eun has since spent years plotting revenge. After becoming a teacher at Semyeong Elementary School, an elementary school attended by the daughter of Park Yeon-jin, the ringleader of the friend group that bullied Dong-eun. She starts closing in on her assailants, with the intention of striking them where it will hurt the most.
Throughout The Glory[]
While being an inpatient in hospital, Dong-eun meets medical intern Joo Yeo-jeong, who works there as a medical intern. The two play Go in the park. Yeo-jeong is into Dong-eun, but she is too focused on plotting revenge to notice. She is also wary of his privileged life as Yeo-jeong's father ran the hospital where he's now employed.
Dong-eun passed the teacher qualification exams in Spring 2015.
While looking through Yeon-jin's garbage one evening, she is caught by Yeon-jin's housemaid, Kang Hyeon-nam. Hyeon-nam offers to help Dong-eun instead of reporting her. In return, Dong-eun is given the responsibility of killing Hyeon-nam's violent husband away.
One night, Yeon-jin's husband, Ha Do-yeong befriends Dong-eun while playing Go, not knowing that she has been stalking his family for years.
Personality[]
cold, distant, disciplined, terse, strong-willed and a badass, Dong-eun is aloof logical and displays a large amount of restraint and remorselessness as she executes her plans for revenge. She does not spend time building relationships that do not serve her purpose of destroying Yeon-jin and the group and can be blunt. At times she allows herself brief moments of happiness, but ultimately she believes that she is a broken spirit.
Towards the end of the series, Dong-eun seems to have regained a sense of purpose, calculating, ambitious.
Physical appearance[]
As an adult, Dong-eun keeps her hair short, occasionally tying it up in a ponytail. She almost exclusively wears long sleeve coats and shirts, sporting various trench coats throughout the series. Her arms and legs are covered with scars from burns she suffered at the hands of her bullies. She is always seen wearing minimal makeup and is quite pale and skinny.
