Mrs. Bolton is a widow who was Clifford Chatterley's childhood nursemaid. Many years later, Clifford becomes paralysed waist down from fighting in a war. Mrs. Bolton is contacted by Hilda Reid to be Clifford's caretaker to relieve his wife Connie from her duties, as she was feeling isolated and depressed. As she gets to know Connie, she begins to feel sympathy for her.
