Pinocchio is the main protagonist in the movie Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio. He is voiced by Gregory Mann.
Biography[]
When Geppetto lost his son Carlo, he planted the pine cone his son held on to before his death, and a pine tree grew over Carlo's grave. 20 years later, in a drunken mix of grief and rage, Geppetto cut down the pine tree, intending, in a futile attempt, to bring Carlo back by carving a puppet resembling the young boy, but his drunken state created a puppet not resembling Carlo at all. When Geppetto was sleeping, the Wood Sprite, a magical fairy, brought the puppet to life, so that it can keep Geppetto company and give him a second chance at being a father. When he woke up for the first time, he chose his name as Pinocchio.

Pinocchio is a wooden puppet who is carved by Geppetto, using the tree that grew over his late son Carlo's grave. Wood Sprite, a magical fairy, brings him to life, so he can keep Geppetto company.
Pinocchio is excited to learn about everything life has to offer, but that leads him into trouble. He has much to learn about the world, and sets off to school. However, along the way, he becomes confused by the things taught at school and begins questioning whether he wants to go or not. He is lured away by a terrifying puppet master named Count Volpe.
On the day Pinocchio is supposed to attend school, Count Volpe lures Pinocchio away from his life with Geppetto. He tricks a naive Pinocchio into handing over his money and manipulates him, leading the puppet down a path of temptation. He promises him money to send home to Geppetto and reneges on that promise. Volpe mistreats both him and Spazzatura, Volpe's monkey companion. During one of Count Volpe's performances, Pinocchio mocks Prime Minister Benito Mussolini to get back at Volpe. Benito was in the audience and ordered Pinocchio to be shot.
The Podestà, a fascist government official, wants to exploit Pinocchio into becoming a child soldier, as he sees Pinocchio as a potential foot soldier who will never get tired or die. While at a military camp, Pinocchio and Podestà's son, Candlewick, become friends. Candlewick is a troublemaker and Pinocchio's partner in crime.

Physical appearance[]
Pinocchio has a child-like appearance with a flare of creepy marionette thrown in. He has a large head, half carved with hair and the other half axe chop marks. Protruding from his face he has a long pointed nose. He has slender stick-thin arms and legs, with mix matched hands as he is half finished. On his small torso he has a hole where his heart would be, which is where Sebastian J Cricket lives and acts as his conscious.

It could be theorized that Pinocchio was given the soul of Carlo by the Wood Sprite, given their identical voices and the fact that he know songs Geppetto had only sung to Carlo. But because a person cannot be truly revived, Pinocchio is not the true Carlo, which explains their different personalities.
