Sebastian J. Cricket is the deuteragonist in the movie Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio. He is voiced by Ewan McGregor.
Biography[]
Sebastian J. Cricket is a cricket, who acts as Pinocchio's mentor, guiding him on what to do and making sure he behaves. He shares his wisdom from inside Pinocchio’s heart (the hole in his chest), accompanying the wooden boy on his adventures. He moves into a pine tree, picking it as the best place to write his memoir. But unfortunately, he’s a little too late as it gets cut down seconds letter by Geppetto.
Sebastian is the movie's narrator and an aspiring writer intent on writing his memoir, named Stridulations of My Youth.

Sebastian is the narrator, he explains the story behind Geppetto’s sorrow before appearing himself. He talks about finding the best place to write his memoir and picking a pine tree as his dwelling. Too bad it gets cut down and turned into a wooden boy named Pinocchio soon after.
The Wood Sprite then brings Pinocchio to life. Though Sebastian is confused and initially disagrees with this, he’s convinced to take care of Pinocchio and guide him to make right choices in return for a wish.
Sebastian lives inside a hole in Pinocchio's chest as a way to have residents, and to keep an eye on Pinocchio. But as Sebastian is trying to do his job, a carny comes by and tricks the boy into joining the circus. Sebastian is thrown onto the floor, and squished by Carlo’s book in the process.
Sebastian travels with Geppetto in order to find Pinocchio, but once they have to sail seas, the two are eaten by a sea-beast and have to reside in the stomach of it.
Once Geppetto is saved and Sebastian is coughed up, they find out Pinocchio had died in the process of taking Geppetto to land. Because of this, the wood spite comes back and gives Sebastian his promised wish. Sebastian wishes for Pinocchio to come back to life.
Years later, Pinocchio sees Sebastian by a window, not moving. Pinocchio places his lifeless body in a match box, putting him in the hole in his chest, so Sebastian would always be with him.
Personality[]
Sebastian is a sophisticated little cricket, he’s straightforward, sympathetic, and poetic.
Sebastian shows dedication to being a novelist, thinking of his book getting published as once of his wishes. He also tries his best to protect Pinocchio, showing genuine concern when the carny approaches and tricks Pinocchio into joining the circus.
Physical appearance[]
Sebastian is a blue (presumably) field cricket with curled antennas, and pure white eyes. He usually stands on his hind legs when talking to someone, also using his two middle legs. Sebastian using all six limbs when moving from place to place.
